Abused at Holy Angels Catholic School?
Other Abusers Who Walked the Halls of Holy Angels
Holy Angels had multiple abusers taking advantage of young students of the school for many years.
Father George Clements:
A victim came forward accusing Father Clements of repeated abuse from 1974-1979. He was 7 years old at the time that the abuse began. The Archdiocese of Chicago paid an $800,000 settlement for this claim in conjunction with four other Chicago-based religious figures that abused children.
Father Paul Smith:
Two victims have recently come forward stating that Father Smith inappropriately abused them as students of Holy Angels Catholic School. Both victims detailed their experiences of abuse that took place both within the school and at the home of Father Smith. They recount the threats Father Smith made that kept them silent through the years so that he didn't face immediate discipline for his actions.
Father Kenneth Brigham:
Father Brigham was assigned to the Holy Angels Parish from 1972-1978. According to his personnel files, there were abuse allegations made in 1994, 2003 and 2007. These submissions went unreviewed. But, an outstanding letter found in his files included glaring details about Brigham having pre-teen to adult males stay overnight in his room of the rectory in the 80's.
Father John Calicott:
After Father Clements left Holy Angels in 1991, Father Calicott was appointed as Pastor of Holy Angels Parish. Father Calicott was put on administrative leave in 1994 for serious abuse allegations that happened in the 80's. After the accusations were determined as non-credible, the Archdiocese reinstated his position at Holy Angels.
Father Thomas Swade:
Father Swade worked at Holy Angels as an Associate Pastor from 1966 - 1972 and was credibly accused of serious abuse of students. He was removed from the public ministry in 1992 after the Archdiocese struggled to place him in other roles of the church and was completely removed from the clergy in 2010 for his misconduct.
